Cecil B. DeMille (1881–1959) was an American director and producer, and one of the founders of the Hollywood film industry. He specialised in large-scale spectacles, especially Biblical and historical epics. His showman's style and long career, from silents to The Ten Commandments (1956), made him a lasting symbol of the Hollywood director.
