Terms of use
The rules, in plain words
Last updated 5 October 2026
By creating an account or using Cinespective, you agree to these terms. They are short on purpose. How we handle your data is on the privacy page.
What Cinespective is
Cinespective is a website to prepare for films, understand them afterwards and keep track of what you watch. It offers film guides, lists, a personal space and an AI companion, the Cine Guide. It does not stream films. Where to watch comes from third parties and may be out of date.
Your account
- You need an email address or a Google account. Keep your sign-in secure; you are responsible for what happens under your account.
- Be at least 16, or use Cinespective together with a parent or guardian.
- One person per account. Do not share access, and do not create accounts to get around the limits.
- You can delete your account at any time, and we can close accounts that break these terms.
Comments and what you write
- Your comments, ratings and notes stay yours. You give us permission to store them and, for public comments only, to show them to other members.
- A comment is private unless you make it public. Public comments show your first name or nickname.
- Be civil. No harassment, hate, threats, spam, adverts, illegal content, or anyone else's private information. Keep spoilers inside the “After watching” part of a film.
- You can report a comment. We may remove content, or limit an account, that breaks these rules.
The film guides and the Cine Guide
- Guides and the Cine Guide's answers are written by an AI. The team reviews the guides progressively and keeps improving them, but we cannot promise that every guide has been checked one by one. They can be wrong or incomplete. They are meant to help you watch with intention, not to be the last word. Check anything important.
- The “Watch with kids?” advice is a suggestion, not an official rating. You decide what is right for your family.
- The Cine Guide has a monthly allowance of conversation time. Do not try to use it for anything unrelated to cinema, to extract its instructions, or to overload it. We may limit use that harms the service or its cost.
Free use, plans and payment
- During the early release every account is free, with a monthly allowance on the Cine Guide so it stays affordable. You can ask for more if you reach it.
- When paid plans open (see the Support page), a Member plan renews every month or year until you cancel. The first 7 days are free. You can cancel at any time from My space, and the plan then ends at the end of the period you paid for.
- A Patron pays an amount of their choice, above the minimum. Extra is a gift and does not unlock anything more.
- Prices include any taxes that apply where you live. A payment provider handles the payment and sends the receipt. We can change prices with at least 30 days' notice before your next renewal.
- Refunds: if something went wrong, write to us within 14 days of a payment and we will make it right where we can. This does not limit rights you have by law.
- If you cancel or your plan ends, your lists, journal and comments stay yours. You only lose the paid allowance.
Ownership
The Cinespective name, logo, design, guides and lists belong to us. You may use the site for your own personal viewing and sharing a link, but you may not copy or resell the guides, scrape the site, or use it to train an AI. Film data, posters and scores come from third parties and belong to them; see the privacy page for the sources.
Availability and responsibility
We do our best, but Cinespective is provided as it is, may change or be unavailable at times, and may contain mistakes. To the extent the law allows, we are not responsible for losses from using the site, and our total responsibility to you is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the problem. Nothing here limits rights you have by law that cannot be limited.
Changes and questions
If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will update this page and its date, and tell members if they have allowed emails. If you keep using Cinespective after a change, it applies to you.
Who runs Cinespective
Cinespective is a passion project run by a small group of film lovers, coordinated by Karl Stehelin.

These terms are a plain-language draft for the early release. They should be checked by a lawyer before paid plans open.
