Chishū Ryū

Born 13 May 1904 · Tachibana, Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan — died 16 March 1993

Chishū Ryū (1904–1993) was a Japanese actor who appeared in well over 100 films from 1928. He was the favourite performer of director Yasujirō Ozu, often playing quiet, dignified fathers. Later generations also knew him as the gentle Buddhist priest in Yoji Yamada's Tora-san series.
