What happens
Luke faces Kylo on Crait as a Force projection, buying the Resistance time to escape before he dies peacefully. Only a handful of survivors remain, but they are still alive, and they are not alone.
The last image
A stable boy on Canto Bight looks up at the stars, and the Force is shown to belong to ordinary people, not just famous families.
What it says
The Force doesn't belong to one bloodline. Luke's last act turns him into a legend that gives people hope, and the closing image hands that hope to a nobody. The saga's future is open to anyone.
