Twelve-year-old Miguel comes from a family of shoemakers who forbid music, yet he dreams of playing guitar like his idol, a legendary singer. On the Day of the Dead, his wish pulls him into an unexpected adventure. Warm, funny and emotional, with a family-film tone.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining example of 2010s Pixar, and a sign of mainstream animation moving beyond Anglo-American settings toward stories rooted in a specific living culture, led by a largely Latino voice cast.
