Michael Bates (1920–1978) was an Indian-born English character actor who served as a Gurkha officer in Burma during World War II. He worked across stage, radio, television and film, and is remembered for supporting roles in A Clockwork Orange and Frenzy, and for playing Montgomery in Patton. He was also a familiar British sitcom face.
