Sir Carol Reed (1906–1976) was an English director who rose from 1930s British studio films to international prominence after the war. He is best known for the run of Odd Man Out, The Fallen Idol and The Third Man, atmospheric thrillers that defined postwar British cinema. He later won an Oscar for Oliver!.
