Popol Vuh
Popol Vuh was a German musical group founded in Munich around 1969 by Florian Fricke, named after a Maya sacred text. Blending ambient, spiritual and krautrock influences, it is best known for its long collaboration with director Werner Herzog, whose films it scored with ethereal, hypnotic music.
Key films
Aguirre, the Wrath of God (1972)
Its haunting choral and synthesizer theme became the group's signature and defined the sound of Herzog's early films.
The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser (1974)
Delicate, meditative score reinforcing Herzog's tale of an outsider; a key example of the Herzog–Popol Vuh partnership.
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)
Brooding, atmospheric music for Herzog's gothic remake of the classic vampire story.
Fitzcarraldo (1982)
Continued the collaboration on Herzog's epic jungle opera project.
