Pier Paolo Pasolini (1922–1975) was an Italian director, poet, novelist and public intellectual. His films joined Marxist politics, Catholic imagery and the lives of the poor, often using non-professional actors. Highly controversial in his lifetime, he remains one of the most influential figures in postwar European cinema.
