Nikita Mikhalkov (born 1945, Moscow) is a Russian director and actor from a prominent artistic family. He is best known for Burnt by the Sun, which won the Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. He heads the Russian Cinematographers' Union and is one of post-Soviet Russia's most prominent filmmakers.
