Each one altered something structural: who tells the story, in what order, how much is explained, or how reliable the telling can be. It follows the shape of narrative, not only its subject matter.
The idea in one sentence
Ten films, from 1920 to 2001, each of which widened what a story can do on screen by changing its structure, point of view, or relation to truth.
The last three return to structure as the main subject. Pulp Fiction (1994) rearranges chronology and interweaves episodes. Memento (2000) runs its sequence against the order of events, so the viewer shares the protagonist's partial knowledge. Mulholland Drive (2001) closes the list by trusting mood and image over conventional logic.
