Iranian (خانهی دوست کجاست؟)
1987 · Directed by Abbas Kiarostami · 83 min
In a village in northern Iran, a schoolboy realises he has taken home the wrong notebook, and his classmate faces serious trouble if it is not returned. What follows is a small, patient journey told almost entirely at a child's level, with the tension of a thriller and the calm of everyday life.
Why it matters in cinema history
A cornerstone of post-revolutionary Iranian cinema and of the child-centred, neorealist-inflected tradition that made Iran one of the most admired art-cinema nations of the following decades.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a story told at a child's scale, where a small errand carries the weight of a real moral decision.
