David Aames is young, rich and charming, a man who has never had to ask life for anything twice. When he meets a woman who seems to matter more than his usual conquests, his comfortable world starts to feel less certain. A glossy romance with a mystery running underneath.
Why it matters in cinema history
A characteristic example of the early-2000s studio film that borrowed the structure of European and independent puzzle thrillers, and a rare case of a major star remaking a foreign film shortly after its release.
