Drama
Brazilian (Sob a Pele)
2013 · Directed by Pedro Sotero & Daniel Bandeira · 19 min
A man and a woman meet again after a long separation. Grief and desire hang between them, but speech will not come. This Brazilian short of 19 minutes is a quiet, intimate drama about what bodies say when words fail.
Why it matters in cinema history
A small-scale work from early-2010s Brazilian short filmmaking, it belongs to the long art-cinema tradition of reunions and unspoken feeling, where restraint does the work that plot does elsewhere.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a drama told through bodies: notice what the two people do with distance, hands and eyes when they do not speak.
