Thai (ลุงบุญมีระลึกชาติ)
2010 · Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul · 114 min
A man in failing health gathers his family at his farm in rural northern Thailand. Over a few quiet days, the living, the dead and the stories of earlier lives sit side by side. The tone is gentle, humorous and dreamlike, with little conventional drama.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of twenty-first-century art cinema and of so-called slow cinema, it brought Southeast Asian independent filmmaking to the centre of the international festival world.
