Four directors each take a story in the spirit of Rod Serling's television series, mixing a new tale of prejudice with three remakes of classic episodes. Expect uncanny twists, sharply different tones from one segment to the next, and a framing device that begins on a dark road at night.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of the anthology horror and fantasy film, and an early example of Hollywood turning a classic TV series into a feature. It is also remembered for the production accident that prompted tougher safety scrutiny on sets.
Watch with intention
Treat it as four short films by four temperaments, and notice how each director bends the same Serling-style 'what if' to a different tone.
