Thai (สัตว์ประหลาด)
2004 · Directed by Apichatpong Weerasethakul · 118 min
A soldier stationed in rural Thailand befriends a young man from the countryside, and the two begin to spend their days together. The film is gentle, unhurried and sensual, more interested in small gestures and the texture of ordinary life than in plot.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of early twenty-first-century festival cinema and the breakthrough of one of its most distinctive auteurs, it helped bring Thai independent film to a global audience.
