Roald Dahl sits in his writing hut and begins to tell the story of a wealthy, idle gambler who stumbles on an account of a man who can see without his eyes. Anderson turns the tale into a brisk, theatrical, nested narration, dry in tone and playful in form.
Why it matters in cinema history
A prominent example of the streaming-era prestige short, and a clear statement of Anderson's late style, in which literature, theatre and cinema are deliberately folded into one another.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a story passed from voice to voice, where how it is told matters as much as what is told.
