After a deadly fire and explosion on a ship in San Pedro harbor, a survivor is questioned by a customs agent in Los Angeles. The inquiry reaches back to a New York police lineup where five career criminals met, and to a criminal legend named Keyser Söze.
Why it matters in cinema history
A key film of the 1990s independent crime-thriller wave, it showed that a dialogue-heavy, noir-flavoured ensemble story could reach a wide audience.
Watch with intention
