In 2003 a Harvard undergraduate and gifted programmer starts a website that will grow far beyond his dorm room. Years later he sits in lawyers' conference rooms, facing lawsuits over who built it, who owns it and what friendship owed. A fast, cold, darkly funny drama about ambition.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of 2010s American cinema: it brought the adult, dialogue-driven studio drama back into the mainstream conversation and helped set the template for the modern tech-founder story.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a story told by competing witnesses, where speed, wit and style are part of the argument about who deserves credit.
