2016 · Directed by Asghar Farhadi · 125 min
A young Tehran couple, both amateur stage actors, are forced from their crumbling building and move into a rented flat with a mysterious history. As they rehearse Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, ordinary life turns tense and uncertain. A quiet domestic drama built like a slow thriller.
Why it matters in cinema history
A leading example of twenty-first-century Iranian art cinema reaching a global audience, and a clear statement of Farhadi's method of building suspense from private dilemmas rather than action.
