In the 1820s American wilderness, a fur-trapping expedition retreats through hostile, freezing country. One of its guides, Hugh Glass, finds himself fighting the landscape, his own body and the men around him. A survival story told as immersive, physical, near-mythic cinema.
Why it matters in cinema history
A late, ambitious entry in the Western tradition that strips the genre of its romance and treats the frontier as a brutal, spiritual and colonial space, while testing how immersive digital filmmaking can become.
Watch with intention
Watch it as an experiment in immersion: how far can camera, sound and natural light make you feel the cold rather than just see it?
