Christopher Nolan adapts Homer's epic poem: Odysseus, king of Ithaca, tries to get home after the Trojan War, while gods, monsters and his own limits stand in the way. A large-scale myth told as a physical, human journey.
Why it matters in cinema history
A major recent entry in the long tradition of Hollywood myth and ancient-world epics, which stretches from Ben-Hur and Lawrence of Arabia to Gladiator, now made in the age of franchises and streaming.
Watch with intention
Watch how a director known for realism and scale makes myth feel physical, as lived experience rather than fairy tale.
