Four years after the disaster at Jurassic Park, chaos theorist Ian Malcolm is pulled into a new expedition to a second island where dinosaurs live free of human control. A blockbuster adventure that trades the first film's wonder for tension and a darker tone.
Why it matters in cinema history
A key example of the late-1990s event sequel, showing how the digital-creature breakthrough of 1993 became routine spectacle and how a major director handled franchise filmmaking.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a director's exercise in staging suspense, where space, weather and sound often matter more than the creatures themselves.
