Horror
American
1990 · Directed by William Peter Blatty · 110 min
Fifteen years after the events in Georgetown, Lieutenant Kinderman investigates a run of ritualistic murders that seem to copy the methods of a serial killer long dead. A slow, talky, melancholy horror film in which conversation and waiting do much of the frightening.
Why it matters in cinema history
A rare studio horror sequel shaped by a novelist's philosophical preoccupations, and a later-found example of slow, suggestive horror in an era of gore-driven franchises.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a detective story soaked in grief, where what people say and how long the camera waits matter more than what is shown.
