A man known only as the Protagonist is recruited into a shadowy organisation and handed a single word as his guide. His mission takes him across several countries, through espionage and spectacle, toward a threat that is not bound by the ordinary flow of time.
Why it matters in cinema history
A late example of the director-driven event film, Tenet pushes the high-concept science-fiction thriller toward formal abstraction. It also became a marker of the pandemic-era cinema crisis.
Watch with intention
Treat it as a spy film and a puzzle at once: follow the sensations and rules of each scene, not every line of explanation.
