Spanish (Hable con ella)
2002 · Directed by Pedro Almodóvar · 112 min
Two men meet by chance at a dance performance, then again in a Madrid private clinic where each keeps watch over a woman who lies in a coma. Their friendship grows in hospital rooms, in a tone that moves between tenderness, comedy and unease.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining work of Almodóvar's mature period and of early twenty-first-century Spanish cinema, it carried the director's colourful melodrama into a more reflective, formally layered register.
