What happens
Rey and Ben Solo defeat Palpatine together on Exegol, and Ben gives his life to revive her. Afterward Rey buries the Skywalker lightsabers on Tatooine and tells a stranger her name is Rey Skywalker.
The last image
On Tatooine, Rey stands in the desert where the saga began, taking a name of her own choosing.
What it says
The film asks whether a hero is defined by inherited family and history or by her own choices. Rey is Palpatine's granddaughter, yet she chooses her name. The ending closes the saga where it began, on a choice, not a bloodline.
