Three decades after the events of the original trilogy, a new totalitarian power rises from the ruins of the Empire, and the Resistance races to find the one man who might stop it. A scavenger, a defector and a pilot are pulled into the chase. Brisk, nostalgic space adventure.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining example of the twenty-first century franchise revival, it marks the point where Hollywood turned nostalgia for 1970s and 1980s blockbusters into a central business strategy.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a deliberate conversation with the 1977 original: what is borrowed, what is changed, and why the film wants you to notice.
