Midway through the war between the Republic and the Separatists, Anakin Skywalker is given a young apprentice he did not ask for, and a rescue mission with galactic consequences: the kidnapped infant son of Jabba the Hutt. A fast, stylised animated adventure in the spirit of the old serials.
Why it matters in cinema history
A pivotal early step in moving big-franchise storytelling from cinema to serialised television animation, and the origin point of a long-running Star Wars continuity.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a pilot and a serial adventure: one big mission built from short, escalating set pieces, with a character relationship growing at its centre.
