Three teenage girls are taken from a parking lot and locked in a windowless room by a man who seems to be several different people. As they search for a way out, the question is who will walk through the door next. A contained, character-driven thriller with a streak of the supernatural.
Why it matters in cinema history
A key example of the low-budget, high-concept thriller that defined mid-2010s studio-independent horror, and a late-career resurgence for one of the era's best-known genre directors.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a performance study: how one actor makes each personality instantly readable, and how the camera helps him do it.
