A young man from the Mumbai slums is one question away from the top prize on India's version of a famous TV quiz show, and the authorities suspect he is cheating. Told through fast, vivid episodes, it is part thriller, part love story and part portrait of a city.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining crossover film of the late 2000s, it showed that a British-made, India-set story with Hindi and English dialogue and no major Western stars could reach a worldwide mainstream audience.
