Fourteen seven-year-olds from very different corners of 1960s Britain talk to the camera about school, money, love and what they want to be. A modest television documentary built on a simple premise, with a promise attached: to come back and look again.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of British television documentary and the seed of a unique long-form project, it turned a one-off current-affairs episode into a lifelong study in time, class and chance.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a portrait of how much a child already carries from home, school and class, and how much is left open.
