1984 · Directed by Wim Wenders · 145 min
A gaunt, silent man in a red cap walks out of the Texas desert with no explanation. His brother comes to bring him home, and slowly the shape of the life he abandoned begins to return. A quiet, open-roaded drama about distance, memory and the American landscape.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of 1980s art cinema and the high point of the German-American dialogue in Wenders' road movies, it showed that a slow, European sensibility could reinterpret the Western's landscapes and myths.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a film about how much a face, a landscape and a long silence can tell you before anyone explains anything.
