Two men live in identical houses side by side, each content with a chair, a newspaper and a patch of lawn. Then something small appears between them. A nine-minute, wordless fable in which live actors move with the strange precision of drawings.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining work of experimental animation and of the National Film Board of Canada, it showed that animation is a method of making movement, not a genre limited to drawings.
Watch with intention
Watch it as an animated film in which the puppets happen to be human beings.
