In 2044, a hired killer called a looper executes targets that a crime syndicate sends back in time from thirty years ahead. Joe has a comfortable, numbed routine until the job changes in a way he cannot refuse. A dry, violent noir thriller built on a time-travel premise.
Why it matters in cinema history
A prominent example of the 2010s original science fiction thriller. It sits in the line of The Terminator and Twelve Monkeys and gives the time-loop story a hard-boiled noir treatment.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a noir about a man's relationship with himself, with the time-travel rules serving the character rather than the other way round.
