2025 · Directed by Jafar Panahi · 103 min
A night-time encounter in Tehran leaves a mechanic convinced he has recognised the man who once tormented him in prison. The film that follows is a tense, unexpectedly funny moral thriller made with the means of a small road movie.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining work of Iranian cinema's contemporary resistance tradition, made in defiance of official restrictions and carrying the Kiarostami-influenced, low-budget realism of the Iranian New Wave into the thriller form.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a moral puzzle: every character is judging how much a sound, a voice or a memory can really prove.
