In a near future where Earth's crops are failing, a former pilot turned farmer is recruited for a last-chance mission through a mysterious gateway near Saturn. It is a large-scale space adventure that keeps returning to a family left behind.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining science-fiction event film of the 2010s, it revived the serious, awe-driven space epic in the tradition of 2001 for a mass audience, and helped keep large-format film shooting alive.
