New York, winter 1961. Llewyn Davis is a gifted folk singer with no money, no apartment and a talent for irritating the people who help him. Over one cold week he moves from couch to couch, carrying a guitar and a borrowed cat.
Why it matters in cinema history
A late-career landmark of American auteur cinema, and one of the most attentive screen portraits of the pre-Dylan folk revival.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a portrait of a person whose talent and temperament pull in different directions, with the music as the clearest evidence of both.
