Indiana Jones is nearing retirement in 1969, a world busy watching the Moon landing and not much interested in antiquities. When his goddaughter turns up asking about a mysterious ancient device, and a former adversary starts to hunt it, the old adventurer is pulled back into the chase.
Why it matters in cinema history
A late entry in the long run of legacy sequels, and the end of one of Hollywood's defining adventure franchises, handed to a new director for the first time.
