After their mother's death, adult twins in Montreal receive two sealed letters and a task: find a father they believed dead and a brother they never knew existed. Their search leads to a war-torn Middle Eastern country and a past their mother kept silent. A grave, slow-burning mystery about family and violence.
Why it matters in cinema history
A key film of Quebec cinema's international rise in the 2010s, and an example of how modern art-house drama can use mystery structure to approach political history without lecturing.
Watch with intention
Watch it as an investigation in which every revelation is also a question about what the characters can bear to know.
