British
1969 · Directed by Lindsay Anderson · 112 min
A new term begins at an old English boarding school, where tradition, ritual and a strict ladder of seniority govern every hour. Mick Travis and two friends push back against the system in small ways. The film mixes dry comedy, realism and flashes of fantasy.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of late-1960s British cinema. It took the public-school story from nostalgia to sharp social satire, and it caught the generational mood of 1968.
Watch with intention
Watch the school as a closed society, with its own laws, ceremonies and language, and ask what each ritual teaches the boys.
