A feature-length aerial survey of the planet, filmed from helicopters across dozens of countries and told in a single calm narration. It sets the Earth's long natural history beside the brief, intensive presence of humans. The tone is lyrical first, urgent second.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining example of the 21st-century campaign documentary, descended from the Earth-portrait tradition of Koyaanisqatsi and from Arthus-Bertrand's own photography project Earth from Above.
Watch with intention
Watch it as an argument made through images first, and only second through the narration.
