Documentary
Iraq (Han gjemte Saddam Hussein – Jakten på verdens mest etterlyste mann)
2024 · Directed by Halkawt Mustafa · 96 min
Twenty years after the famous images of Saddam Hussein being pulled from a hole in the ground, the man who dug that hole tells his story to camera. An ordinary Iraqi farmer recounts how the most wanted man in the world came to live in his garden. The tone is intimate, strange and quietly tense.
Why it matters in cinema history
A recent example of the testimony-driven documentary, in which a single participant's account of a famous event is placed at the centre. It also shows how the Iraq War is now being revisited by those who lived it.
Watch with intention
Treat the film as a portrait of one man telling a story about the past, not as a neutral record of what happened.
