During a routine spacewalk to repair the Hubble Space Telescope, a medical engineer on her first mission and a veteran astronaut find themselves cut off in orbit, hundreds of kilometres above Earth. The film is a lean, continuous survival thriller that turns silence, distance and breath into its main sources of tension.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of the digital-era spectacle, it fused visual-effects animation with live performance so closely that the line between the two became hard to see, and it renewed the survival story set in space.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a film about orientation: where the camera is, where you are, and what the characters can and cannot hold on to.
