A young Black photographer agrees to spend a weekend at his white girlfriend's family estate, nervous about meeting her parents. The welcome is warm, almost too warm, and small details start to feel wrong. A social thriller that mixes dread with sharp comedy.
Why it matters in cinema history
A landmark of twenty-first-century horror and the film that opened the way for socially minded, director-driven genre cinema from a wider range of voices.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a film about being watched: who looks at Chris, how they look, and what they pretend not to be doing.
