1989 · Directed by Al Reinert · 80 min
Al Reinert assembles NASA's own film of the Apollo lunar missions into a single journey from Earth to the Moon and back. The only voices are those of the astronauts, remembering what they saw and felt, and no one appears on screen to explain.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of the compilation documentary, and the work that restored the Apollo footage to public view as cinema in its own right, not as a news-bulletin memory.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a film about looking: what it meant for human beings to see Earth and the Moon with their own eyes.
