A quiet history lecturer in Toronto spots an actor in a film who looks exactly like him. His curiosity turns into pursuit, and the city around him grows steadily stranger. A cold, hypnotic psychological thriller that rewards close attention more than quick answers.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining example of the 2010s art-house psychological thriller, it revived the doppelgänger story in a cool, dreamlike register shaped by Lynch and Hitchcock.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a puzzle of atmosphere: the way the film looks and sounds is giving you information the plot does not.
