Daffy Duck steps into a scene as a swashbuckler and finds that nothing around him will stay put. Backgrounds, props, sound and even his own body keep changing at the hands of an unseen artist. It is a fast, funny seven minutes about who controls a cartoon.
Why it matters in cinema history
A peak of the Warner Bros. cartoon golden age, and a classic of reflexive filmmaking that sits alongside much longer works of cinematic self-awareness.
Watch with intention
Watch it as a comedy about control: who decides what the audience sees and hears, and what a character can do about it.
