A Parisian television host and his wife begin receiving unmarked videotapes that show nothing more than the outside of their home, along with crude drawings. As the tapes grow more personal, the couple's composure, and their sense of who they are, starts to fray.
Why it matters in cinema history
A defining film of 21st-century European art cinema, it showed how digital video, surveillance imagery and the thriller form could be used for political and ethical enquiry rather than escapism.
